Kubica in good condition but still in intensive care ahead of final op
RENAULT driver Robert Kubica is set to undergo a final round of surgery tomorrow as he recovers from the career-threatening crash he suffered earlier this month.
Doctors will operate on Kubica’s elbow as the Pole goes under the knife for a third time since ploughing his rally car into a church wall during the Ronde di Andora.
The 26-year-old remains in intensive care, having sustained a partially severed hand and fractures to his arm and leg in the smash nine days ago.
He is expected to miss a large chunk of the 2011 F1 season, which starts in March, but his team yesterday issued an upbeat bulletin on his condition.
“The latest update on Robert is that his condition remains positive,” Renault said in a statement.
“He will stay in intensive care for the next couple of days to allow a complete check-up and to avoid another change of department before his final operation. His good general condition means that the final surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.”
