Legacy chiefs delay decision over stadium
TOTTENHAM and West Ham must wait until next month to learn who has won the bitter fight for the Olympic Stadium after legacy chiefs delayed their decision.
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) had been expected to make its recommendation on Friday but yesterday announced they needed “more time to seek further clarification with both bidders”.
An OPLC statement added: “The stadium is a significant public asset. We have a duty to run a robust process.”
It comes amid ever-intensifying debate over the future of the £537m venue, which is being built specifically for next year’s London 2012 Games.
West Ham argue they are the logical choice because they are more local, and have the backing of the athletics world because they intend to keep it as a mixed-use stadium.
Tottenham want to rebuild the stadium without a running track and deliver an athletics legacy by revamping Crystal Palace.
