Lennon: Don’t make me Tottenham’s scapegoat
TOTTENHAM winger Aaron Lennon insists his manager Harry Redknapp was aware there was chance he would miss Tuesday’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Real Madrid as early as last Sunday and hit back at suggestions the size of the occasion caused his last minute withdrawal.
Redknapp claimed the England star was unable to play in the Champions League quarter-final first leg after suffering a bout of illness.
But Lennon contradicted that take on events, and yesterday used his Twitter account to dispel the notion nerves had gotten the better of him.
He said: “Saying I fell ill before the game is bull**** I fell ill on Sunday morning where the med team put me on antibiotics, but only got worse before Tuesday.”
He later posted: “Believe me this is one game I did not want to miss and still devastated now!!!! But will not be made a scapegoat saying they only knew just before kick off.”
Meanwhile, defender Michael Dawson reveled that Peter Crouch apologised to his team-mates after he was sent off in the 15th minute.
