Far from demonstrating a lack of political will on Crossrail 2, the mayor has long been the driving force behind getting this vital project moving. He strongly believes it is critical to boosting capacity and galvanising economic growth, which is why he has instructed his team to push ahead with detailed engagement, design, safeguarding and planning so we can deposit a hybrid bill in 2017. As Lord Adonis is aware from his discussions with the mayor, this would enable the opening of Crossrail 2 by 2030.

By 2020, there is forecast to be anywhere from 50bn to a trillion things and devices connected to the web. Because of this, virtual reality is becoming more important for visualising and navigating huge amounts of real time information. We can imagine technicians going “inside” machines on the other side of the world to repair them. Surgeons, engineers and the military are already using such virtual 3D simulations to make medical diagnoses, model new structures or formulate combat scenarios.
