Levy: I won’t sell Spurs if we go to Stratford
TOTTENHAM chairman Daniel Levy has denied there are any plans in place to sell the club if they move to the site of the Olympic Stadium.
Legacy chiefs are expected to announce early next week whether they will recommend West Ham or Tottenham as tenants for the site.
There has been rumoured interest in the north London club from Qatar, while others believe the US giant AEG, the O2 operator that is partnering Tottenham in their bid to move to Stratford, would like to buy the club should their bid be successful.
“There is no truth whatsoever in any form of conversation with anybody about selling the club,” Levy said. “We haven’t put this amount of effort into building up Tottenham with the intention of moving it on to someone else. We want to see this project through.
“AEG have no interest in buying Tottenham Hotspur, or any other club for that matter, and they have made that clear.”
Levy also admitted concern that the influence of Lord Coe and Tessa Jowell, who oppose Tottenham’s plan to demolish the stadium and rebuild it minus a running track, will see the decision go in West Ham’s favour, despite Spurs’ impressive commercial revenues.
He said: “I don’t like all the stuff that’s around it, all the emotive stuff being said by certain people.”
