LinkedIn triples UK editor headcount as it expands news desk

LinkedIn has said it will be tripling its UK News headcount it has across the world as the firm expands from a professional network into a news one.

The Microsoft-owned network currently employs three editors in the UK, which is increasing to nine, according to Press Gazette.

Across the globe, the platform will now have 200 editors in total, putting it at odds with the likes of The Independent, which has around 170 in the UK and US.

Linkedin’s editorial director for international Sandrine Chauvin said the journalist boost is about providing members with “quality, useful journalism”.

She said the move “gives us the opportunity to provide LinkedIn members in the UK with even better information, analysis and debates on the platform to help them in their working lives”.

LinkedIn Editors focus not only on original reporting and the latest news, but also on cultivating and curating conversations from other members, influencers and trusted news publishers in order to provide LinkedIn members with the information they need to have a say in the workplace.

The team produces a daily news digest called The Daily Rundown (sent to members every morning) and The Wrap-Up (sent every evening), summarising the day’s top news and talking points.

The Daily Rundown reaches 159 million people every day in 135 countries, making it one of the world’s largest business publications. In the UK, it reaches 12.5 million people daily.

On top of this, they write articles and newsletters, produce podcasts and audio events, plus host live video interviews with prominent business leaders.

Linkedin News launched in 2011 and has been growing its readership and network ever since.

The platform has also experimented with a number of other features, including its Snapchat style “stories” video, as well as newsletter options.

However, the company abandoned the latter due to a lack of demand.
