London City Airport wins boosted seat capacity with bolstered BA fleet
British Airways is expanding its fleet of Embraer 190 aircraft at London City Airport (LCA) next year under its BA CityFlyer brand.
The addition of four new planes mean there will now be 26 BA CityFlyer aircraft operating at LCA, leading to job opportunities and a boosted seat capacity of 20 per cent.
Along with the new aircraft, BA CityFlyer is also to launch a new route to Rome Fiumicino Airport from November and increase its weekday flights to Zurich. BA said it new destinations will be launched in due course.
Richard Hill, chief commercial officer at London City Airport, said: “BA CityFlyer is London City Airport’s largest airline partner and this investment in four additional E-Jets demonstrates absolute commitment to its base at London’s most central airport, and continued growth as we enter 2019."
The airport also announced yesterday that Aer Lingus will now operate the Dublin route from 28 October as part of a leasing deal with Irish regional airline CityJet, in what the airport says will open up connections to 13 North American destinations through Dublin Airport.
