August in London tends to be quieter than the spring rush, but the calendar remains packed with experiences that fit around a working week. Below is a selection of workshops, dining openings, sport activations and wellness offers running through the month, all reachable from the City or West End.

Culture and workshops

The Cartoon Museum in Fitzrovia runs Summer Holiday Family Workshops from 5 to 26 August, covering comic creation, caricature and manga for ages eight to 14. Sessions vary by date; booking details are on the museum website.

At Guildhall Yard, London's Roman Amphitheatre is open daily from 10am to 5pm. The interactive display explains the venue's discovery, its surviving structure and the spectacles once staged in the capital's oldest sporting arena. The site is fully accessible and foldable stools are provided.

Every Friday at 12.30pm, The London Centre on Aldermanbury hosts a free 30-minute lunchtime talk beside its 1:2000 scale model of London, which covers 85 square kilometres and 34 kilometres of the Thames, alongside a detailed 1:500 model of the Square Mile's future development.

Dining highlights

Emilia's Crafted Pasta on Victoria Street builds its menu around the science of matching pasta shapes to sauces, aiming for maximum flavour in every bite. The Happenstance sits beside St Paul's Cathedral in Paternoster Square, serving breakfast through late-night cocktails. Satyrio on Aldgate High Street pairs generous Italian plates with an extensive wine list in a relaxed setting.

For a heritage afternoon tea, Engel Bar at the Royal Exchange offers handmade patisserie, scones and sandwiches with Jing teas (£42), Hattingley Valley English sparkling wine (£52) or Ruinart Champagne (£57), served Monday to Saturday from noon to 5pm. White Mulberries on Tooley Street specialises in all-day brunch, signature banana bread and seasonal white mulberries. In Westminster, Tiffin Tree on Vane Street reimagines the tiered-stand ritual with Indian-inspired savouries such as firecracker cauliflower with black truffle oil and Amritsari machhi, plus gulab jamun and mango-cardamom delice alongside house chai.
