London-headquartered insurance company Thomas Miller has acquired specialist German shipping, trade and transport insurance specialist Zeller Associates.

Zeller was founded by Harald Zeller, who spent eight years at sea, starting as a deckhand and working his way up to captain, before becoming a maritime lawyer and then moving into the insurance industry.

He founded Zeller Associates in 1996, which, as well as providing risk and insurance services to the shipping sector, also provides services in other specialist areas such as the cruise and tourism industries.

Headquartered in Hamburg, it provides services such as insurance underwriting and management, claims handling, loss adjusting and expert investigations.

Chair of Thomas Miller Hugo Wynn Williams said: “The acquisition of these businesses’ specialist expertise across a broad range of marine transport related insurance services is an excellent and complementary addition to the Thomas Miller Group.”

Harald Zeller said: “We have common values and vision for the future with our businesses playing an important role in Thomas Millers future growth strategy.”
