London Underground just had its busiest day ever, with 4.6m journeys
Last Friday was the busiest day in the history of the tube, according to Transport for London.
London Underground carried well over four and a half million passengers (4.6m) on Friday the 14 November.
This beat its previous record, which was set during the London 2012 Olympic games, when a whopping 4.5m journeys were made in one day.
Phil Hufton, London Underground's chief operating officer said:
We are now carrying more passengers than ever before in our history and this clearly illustrates why it is crucial that we invest in the modernisation of the Tube network.
It marked the end of a particuarly busy week for the tube, with overall journeys soaring by 7.1 per cent on last year.
The network is carrying out a series of modernisations to its services. This includes the upgrade of the Northern line, which is nearly complete, and improvements on the Circle, District & City and Metropolitan lines. A number of stations including Victoria, Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street are also being redeveloped.
