● ERICSSON
Telecommunications giant Ericsson is listed on the Stockholm exchange. Its business segments include networks, professional services and multimedia, as well as the joint venture Sony Ericsson, which produces mobile phones, accessories and PC-cards. The company’s turnover is 806.5m Swedish kronor, according to figures from Nasdaq OMX.

● NOKIA
Last year, the mobile phone manufacturer Nokia, which is headquartered in Finland, had a turnover of €604.5m, but last week’s profit warning indicates the pressure it is currently under from competitors. With production and research facilities, as well as sales and marketing centres, around the world, the company makes a wide range of mobile devices offering services including music, navigation and video.

● NOVO NORDISK
Novo Nordisk is a global healthcare company with more than 31,300 employees in 74 countries, 44 per cent of whom are based in Denmark. Its main area of research is diabetes treatments. The company, which is listed in both Copenhagen and New York, has a turnover of 559.4m Danish kroner according to the Nasdaq OMX statistics.

● HENNES & MAURITZ (H&M)
The high street retailer H&M has an annual turnover of 560.7m Swedish kronor, according to Nasdaq OMX. The company’s business concept is to provide customers with high value by offering fashion and quality at a low price. It does not manufacture the clothes it sells. It buys them from independent suppliers located primarily in Asia and Europe before selling them from stores that are rented rather than owned by the company.
