Mapped: The London areas best (and worst) at managing money based on the credit score of every borough

Londoners are better at managing their finances than the rest of the country, but some areas are better than others.

Residents of Kingston rack up the best credit score in the capital and 13 per cent higher than the city average of 386 and more than 14 per cent higher than the national average of 380, according to research from ClearScore, which analysed millions of credit scores across the country.

The people of Newham are the worst in the city at managing their money with  a score of 344, followed by Southwark and Tower Hamlets residents.

Those in the richest boroughs such as Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster and Camden, where average incomes top £70,000 languish mid-table among the 32 boroughs – ranking at 21, 20 and 23, respectively – demonstrating that high income does not necessarily equate to a high credit score.

So who's better at managing money when it comes to the north south divide? It's south Londoners who triumph on 401 versus 396 in the north of the city. The people of west London average 390, followed by central London, while residents of east London languish behind with 375.

“To get an excellent creditscore, you need to take the bull by the horns and sort your finances – this is especially important for Londoners grappling with the heftiest mortgages in the country,” said ClearScore founder and chief executive Justin Basini.
