Cabinet minister Michael Gove and journalist wife Sarah Vine will divorce after more than 20 years of marriage, a spokesperson for the couple said.

The couple are “in the process of finalising their divorce”.

Their spokesman told the Press Association: “Michael and Sarah have agreed to separate and they are in the process of finalising their divorce.

“They will continue to support their two children and they remain close friends.

“The family politely ask for privacy at this time and will not be providing any further comment.”

The couple married in 2001 and have two children together.

A friend of the couple told the Press Association the pair had “drafted apart” and that the separation is “amicable”, with nobody else involved.
