Microsoft says new tablet is faster than 95 per cent of laptops today

Today's second tablet release (after Tesco's Hudl), tech giant Microsoft is now unveiling its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 devices.

Microsoft vice president surface Panos Panay says they've "been working on the second-generation of products for about 18 months".

Panay says that the Pro 2 is "literally faster than 95 percent of laptops today" with a graphics performance improvement of 50 per cent.

Surface Pro 2 Specs

  • Will retail for $899 (£560)
  • ClearType HD display, with 46 per cent more colour accuracy and Dolby sound.
  • Haswell processor.
  • 64GB storage and 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and 4GB RAM, 256GB of storage with 8GB of RAM, or 512GB of storage with 8GB of RAM.
  • Better screen, better speakers, 75 per cent more battery life.

Surface 2 Specs

  • Will retail for $449 (£280).
  • ClearType HD display, with 46 per cent more colour accuracy and Dolby sound.

Accessories

  • Surface Power Cover – A keyboard case that contains a 30w battery
  • Surface Docking Station – 3x USB 3.0, 1x USB 1.0, Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, Audio, Audio Out and Power. Will support two monitors.
  • Type Cover 2 – 1mm thinner than the last Type Cover.
