More agony for Murray as classy Ferrer takes no mercy in Rome
ANDY MURRAY’S recent woes continued after he crashed out to Spain’s David Ferrer in the third round of the Rome Masters last night.
The world No5 dropped a service game in each set to go down 6-3, 6-4 to the 13th seed and succumb to his fourth defeat in five ATP Tour matches.
Murray, 22, broke his recent duck with a victory over Andreas Seppi on Tuesday, but failed to make an impression against clay-court specialist Ferrer, who looked sharper throughout and won the vital points.
“I thought it was a good match, a high standard, there were a lot of good points, I just didn’t convert my chances,” Murray said.
There was no such worry for second seed Novak Djokovic, however, after booked a quarter-final with Fernando Verdasco with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Thomaz Bellucci.
