Murray breezes past Ferrer to secure his place in the semi final
BRITAIN’S Andy Murray is through to the last four at the ATP World Tour Finals after thrashing David Ferrer in straight sets at London’s 02 Arena.
After Roger Federer had beaten Sweden’s Robin Soderling earlier in the day, Murray knew a win over Ferrer would be enough to secure his place in the semi-finals.
And the world No4 didn’t disappoint the passionate home crowd, producing some of his best tennis to see off the Spaniard 6-2 6-2.
Murray must wait until today’s remaining Group A matches to find out who his semi-final opponent will be, but the Scot would be more than happy to face world No1 Rafael Nadal, who has been in awesome form so far in this competition.
“It feels great to be in the semis in London,” he said. “They’ve put on an unbelievable tournament here and it’s been almost packed every match. I’d like to play against Nadal in the semi-finals on Saturday.”
Earlier in the day, Federer swept past Soderling 7-6 6-3 to record his third straight convincing victory in Group B.
Federer said: “Playing Robin is never easy. I played really well against a guy who’s in great shape also so I’m really pleased.”
