Musk: Tesla superchargers to extend across Europe next year

Tesla’s supercharger network will extend across Europe next year, the company’s chief executive Elon Musk has said.

The charger system, which allows Tesla owners to plug in for 30 minutes for a power boost during their trip, has previously had some black spots in Europe.

However, they will now be extended to the rest of the continent, the chief executive said.

In response to comments on Twitter, Musk said: “Yes. Supercharger coverage will extend to 100 per cent of Europe next year. From Ireland to Kiev, from Norway to Turkey.”

Tesla currently runs 1,386 supercharger stations across the world with 11,583 superchargers, the company said.

Earlier in the day Musk tweeted: “Most people don’t know that the Tesla supercharger network allows easy long distance travel throughout USA, most of Europe, Canada and China.”

Users of the system are either billed per minute or for each unit of electricity they use while charging. Tesla has said it is committed to never turning the superchargers into a profit centre.
