Netflix, Google and Facebook to require jabs for return to office
Netflix, Google and Facebook will require all US employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19 before they can return to work.
In an email to staff Google boss Sundar Pichai said the tech giant was pushing back its return to the office from September to mid-October.
He added that vaccinations will be compulsory for US staff, with the policy rolled out to other countries in the coming months.
Facebook, which has said it will allow most staff to work remotely in future, unveiled similar proposals.
According to reports, Netflix’s new policy means key cast and crew on US film and TV productions will need to be jabbed.
It comes after new standards were agreed between Hollywood studios and unions allowing companies to implement mandatory vaccination policies.
The new measures are the most high-profile examples of the “no jab, no job” policy first proposed by Pimlico Plumbers earlier this year.
Founder Charlie Mullins told Morning Wire he would spend around £1m rolling out mandatory vaccinations for his staff.
Foreign secretary Dominic Raab today said mandatory vaccination rules were a “smart policy” for companies.
“We want everyone to be double jabbed,” he said. “I can understand why that would be a smart policy, but whether [mandating vaccines should be made] hard and fast legal rules, we would need to look at that carefully.
“The message in this country… globally, is get vaccinated. Life gets back to normal if people have two jabs.”
