Nico Rosberg fumes over collision as Hamilton wins again in Montreal and dedicates victory to Muhammad Ali
Furious championship leader Nico Rosberg refused to conceal his anger at an early collision with eventual race winner Lewis Hamilton as his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings was cut to nine points in Montreal.
Rosberg was forced off track after the two Mercedes’ went wheel to wheel at turn one of a strategic battle which saw Hamilton claim back-to-back victories, finishing ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in second and Valtteri Bottas of Williams in third.
“We touched and I was off and that’s it. It didn’t work out, I was very p****d off in that moment but that’s racing and in the end it’s my job to make sure I’m in front after a battle like that next time,” said Rosgerg.
Hamilton’s victory, his fifth in nine starts in Montreal, meant he has cut Rosberg’s lead at the top of the drivers’ championship from 43 points to just nine in two races. He dedicated his win to the late Muhammad Ali. Hamilton said: “I never really dedicate wins to anyone, but someone who has really inspired me so much in so many respects throughout my whole life is Muhammad Ali. He passed just recently so I would love to dedicate this win to him and to his family.
