Nigel Farage defends Trump’s “alpha male boasting” as high profile Republicans withdraw support
Ukip's boomerang leader Nigel Farage has defended the behaviour of under pressure Presidential hopeful Donald Trump after making lewd remarks about women as fellow high profile Republicans withdrew their support.
Farage, who is once again in charge of the party on an interim basis following the resignation of elected leader Diane James, said Trump's comments were "alpha male boasting" and "the kind of thing men do".
Speaking to Fox News, he also said: "By the way, quite a lot of women say things amongst themselves that they would not want to see on Fox News, or the front page of a newspaper, I'm not pretending it's good – it's ugly, it is ugly."
The comments come as high profile politicians within the Republican party sought to distance themselves from Trump's remarks, in which he bragged about groping women.
John McCain, a former Presidential candidate, has withdrawn support for Trump, saying the comments made it "impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy".
Meanwhile, Condoleeza Rice, the former secretary of state, called on Trump to drop out of the race for the White House.
More than a dozen Republicans have said they will not vote for Trump, despite him being the party's chosen candidate, while a similar number have called out his behaviour.
Trump will go head to head with his rival Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House in a second televised debate on Sunday evening.
