Man accused of Jo Cox murder refuses to enter pleas
A not guilty plea has been recorded on behalf the man accused of the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox.
Thomas Mair, 53, appeared in the court via a video link from Belmarsh prison and did not respond when asked for his plea on four charges relating to Cox's death in the Old Bailey this morning, according to various reports.
The judge then ordered for not guilty pleas to be entered on Mair's behalf.
Cox, who was married and had two young children, was shot and stabbed outside a library in Birstall near Leeds in June.
Cox, who had been MP for Batley & Spen since 2015, had been in the process of holding her weekly advice surgery at the time of the attack. She was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary and later died in hospital.
As well as being accused of the murder of Cox, Mair also stands accused of possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of an offensive weapon – a dagger – and grievous bodily harm to a passerby, Bernard Kenny.
