Vodafone will be slapped with a multimillion pound fine for how it deals with complaints and how it handles its pay-as-you-go service.

Ofcom will announce the outcome of two investigations tomorrow.

Sky News has reported that the two 18-month probes have both found significant failings in Vodafone's UK business.

The telecoms regulator has accused Vodafone of conduct "contrary to the relevant conditions when selling pre-paid mobile telephony (PAYG) services to its PAYG customers and rendering bills to such customers that did not represent the true extent of the service actually provided to them".

The second allegation is that Vodafone has not provided a complaints procedure that is transparent, accessible and effective. Ofcom has also been assessing whether Vodafone's record-keeping in its complaints procedure is up to scratch.

The problems started for Vodafone when it decided to move seven billing systems to one in 2011.

Ofcom recently released its verdict on the most complained about telecoms firms, and Vodafone came top of the list for mobile providers, and it was significantly ahead of TalkTalk, which came in second place.

Vodafone and Ofcom declined to offer a response.
