OTHER AMERICAN RESTAURANTS

HARD ROCK CAFE
Believe it or not, this is the original Hard Rock Cafe, and has now spawned over 140 others all over the globe. The recipe is pretty much the same wherever you go – American food, guitars on the wall and rock (not always of the hard variety) pumping out of the speakers. 150 Old Park Lane, London, W1K 1QZ, tel: 020 7514 1700.

SOPHIE’S STEAKHOUSE

Much-loved by those who live in the area, the menu here concentrates on the Americas – 28-day aged steaks, crab salad and the like – and does it well. Maybe not the greatest steakhouse in London, but if you are looking for some stars and stripes, it’ll do the job. 311-313 Fulham Road, SW10 9QH, tel: 020 7352 0088.

AUTOMAT
Mac ‘n’ cheese, burgers, milkshakes – this Mayfair favourite has the full range of classic diner fare and when you want a bellyful of hearty grub, it’s a must for lunching in the area. Nab one of the booths for that authentic diner vibe – with an added bit of Mayfair chic, of course. 33 Dover St London, W1S 4NF, tel: 020 7499 3033
