JULIUS CAESAR AT THE ROUNDHOUSE
The RSC, in situ at the Round House for a season, has begun its run of Julius Caesar, directed by veteran Lucy Bailey. In a refreshing break from theatrical vogue, characters are cloaked up like Elizabethans rather than, say, bankers or modern politicians. As Julius Caesar’s strength and popularity look set to propel him to the imperial throne, those closest to him act to prevent what they fear will become a dictatorship. It’s a masterpiece of political powerplay and manipulation that should still gratify modern day parallel-seekers. Other plays in the season include King Lear, Hamlet and As You Like It.
