MUSEUM OF LONDON
Family events at the Barbican-situated museum include the story of Edmund Haley discovering the comet named after him, a look at prehistoric stone tools discovered in London, and experiments with wind and sails for five-and-unders. CLIMB THE MONUMENT
If you want to wow the kids and tire them out, send them up the City’s most famous landmark. Climb 311 steps, learn some London history and look out at the stunning views from the top. Tickets are just £1 for children and £3 for adults.

DAN ZANES AND FRIENDS
The Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and entertainer loved by children and their parents comes to the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on Thursday and will be staying until Sunday, with a giddy whirl of instruments and songs to get the family party started. NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
Kids of an artistic bent can enjoy the free “tour and draw” sessions at the NPG, led by artists and storytellers, or collage-making sessions using characters from the museum collections and a variety of colourful materials. Sessions free. Visit www.npg.org.uk for more details.
