Manuel Pellegrini calm over Vincent Kompany’s Manchester City absence
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has downplayed the absence of skipper Vincent Kompany as his side look to ignite their Champions League campaign against Borussia Monchengladbach tonight.
City began the season in imperious form and won their first five matches without conceding a goal, but have shipped seven in their last three matches without the influential Kompany, who has failed to shake off a calf injury.
“Of course Vincent is a very important player,” said Pellegrini. “He is our captain and he has started the season very well but I don’t think one player is so crucial. We won the last six games of last season without Vincent.”
Pellegrini brought the wrong passport for his flight to Dusseldorf yesterday, resulting in a dash home.
