Players should be consulted over Davis Cup skipper, insists Murray
ANDY MURRAY has urged British tennis chiefs to consult with the players before announcing the new Davis Cup captain.
The British No1 sat out the humiliating 3-2 defeat by Lithuania which led to the resignation of John Lloyd.
Several candidates such as former British No1 Greg Rusedski and Lloyd’s brother David are in the running to take over, but Murray, who doesn’t want his own coach, Miles Maclagen to be considered, insists the Lawn Tennis Association shouldn’t rush into an appointment and must spend time getting the players’ views.
“It’s important the players have some say,” the world No4 said. “But there’s no rush, there’s not another match for four months. “It’s important they take their time and get the right person — I’m sure they will.”
Murray, meanwhile, eased into the quarter finals of the Paribas Open in Indian Wells after Nicolas Almagro retired with an ankle injury.
