Counter terror police investigating explosive devices at Waterloo Station, Heathrow Airport and City Airport
Counter terrorism police are investigating after explosive devices were found at Waterloo Station, Heathrow Airport and City Airport today.
The Met Police counter terrorism command said it was treating the incidents as linked.
Packages containing what police said were “small improvised explosive devices” arrived at the three locations this morning.
The packages were A4-sized white postal bags containing yellow Jiffy bags. One had a return address in Dublin on the front and what appeared to be Irish stamps.
A statement from Irish police said: “An Garda Siochana are assisting the Metropolitan Police with their enquiries.”
The police said the package at Heathrow was opened by staff at Compass House, “causing the device to initiate,” which led to part of the package burning.

No one was injured and the building was evacuated as a precaution.
At 11.40 British Transport Police were called to reports of a suspicious package in the post room at Waterloo. The package was not opened and was made safe by specialist officers.
Shortly after midday, police were called to a report of a suspicious package at offices at City Aviation House, near City Airport.
Staff were evacuated from the building and police made the device safe.
Trains from Waterloo were running as normal today and flights from City Airport and Heathrow were unaffected.

DLR services to London City Airport were suspended earlier in the day but are now fully operational.
The Met said it has issued advice to transport hubs across London to watch out for suspicious packages and report them to police.
London mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement: “I would like to thank officers from the Met, British Transport Police and other transport staff for their quick response today – the Met has confirmed that nobody has been injured.
“While transport services continue to operate as normal, I urge all Londoners and visitors to our city to remain vigilant, and report any potential suspicious packages to the police.”
