Pound the City streets this summer

WELL, the sun is out and the London Marathon is just a couple of weeks away, which means that there’s really no excuse not to strap on your trainers and get out there for a good, long lunchtime run. With perfect timing, the DLR has launched a new service called Discover Lunchtime Runs, with running routes courtesy of the running website WalkJogRun. You can see them online at the DLR’s website or on an iPhone app.

The idea is that these are specially designed for those who work close to a DLR station, so that you don’t have to do a circular run, but can get away from your place or work and then take a DLR back at the end. All you have to take with you, then, is your Oyster Card. Just the thing for Morning Wire readers.

Here we feature three of the runs that might be of special appeal to those who work in the City or Canary Wharf – and which would be ideal for a touch of tempo training. One runs from Tower Gateway to Bank, another from Greenwich to Canary Wharf, while another is a circular Bank run, all of which take in a good helping of those London landmarks that you are probably too deskbound to appreciate.

If those don’t excite you, then there are 600,000 runs on the WalkJogRun website to choose from, and you can also upload your own if you want to add one of your own discoveries. The sun will – hopefully – be here for a while. Make the most of it.
