Ipswich v Liverpool (8 pm)
Liverpool have yet to win in the new Premier League season, having shared four-goal draws with both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Andoni Iraola’s side will fancy their chances of breaking their duck at Portman Road, however, against an Ipswich side that shipped five goals at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. Despite the defeat, there is still reason for optimism for Gary O’Neil’s men, but this could be another difficult evening against one of the division’s Goliaths.
Prediction: Ipswich 1-3 Liverpool
Saturday, 5th September
Newcastle v Bournemouth (12.30 pm)
Despite the pessimistic predictions, Newcastle have looked good under new boss Matthias Jaissle and will go into this game with plenty of confidence following their 2-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday evening. Bournemouth have yet to pick up their first win and have developed a nasty habit of conceding late goals under Marco Rose.
Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth
Brentford v Sunderland (3 pm)
Brentford dominated for long spells at Elland Road before being pegged back by Leeds, and remains one of the form sides across the first couple of weeks of the new season. Keith Andrews continues to impress, and the Bees will expect to maintain their strong home form against a Sunderland side that beat Fulham on Sunday but struggled to get out of first gear for much of a largely mundane contest. The Wearsiders are solid defensively but lack spark going forward.
Prediction: Brentford 2-0 Sunderland
Brighton v Leeds (3 pm)
Brighton have scored seven goals in their first two games but also conceded four in defeat at Chelsea on Sunday. It is difficult to know what to make of Fabian Hurzeler’s men at this early stage, and this game with Leeds ought to be a good indicator. The West Yorkshire side enjoyed back-to-back wins at Nottingham Forest, one in the league and one in the EFL Cup, to start the season, but were grateful to take a point against Brentford on Sunday.
Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Leeds
Fulham v Crystal Palace (3 pm)
The alarm bells are sounding for Fulham after defeats to Chelsea and Sunderland, with new boss Alvaro Arbeloa already questioning his players’ desire. They showed attacking promise in their opening game against Chelsea, but were largely toothless at the Stadium of Light. Palace are in a similar position, having lost their first two under Pierre Sage. This has the feel of a big game.
Prediction: Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace
Manchester City v Coventry (3 pm)
City looked back to their fluent best at Crystal Palace last Friday, with Rayan Cherki running the show at Selhurst Park. Enzo Maresca has made a promising start to life as successor to Pep Guardiola, and the home side will be confident of making it three wins from three when they take on the newly promoted Sky Blues. It has not been a great start for Coventry, the defeat at Arsenal on the opening night was expected, but the home defeat to Hull was not, and this looks like another tough assignment.

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham (3 pm)
Tottenham’s expensive summer rebuild has yet to reap its rewards, with the North London club having lost both of their opening two games without scoring. Spurs produced an awful second-half display against Newcastle on Saturday and will hope for much better at the City Ground. Forest may have disappointed against Leeds, but arguably deserved more than a point at Liverpool last weekend.

Hull v Aston Villa (5.30 pm)
It has been a dream return to the big time for Hull, with wins over Manchester United and Coventry defying the skeptics who predicted a swift return to the Championship. That may still happen, but it seems an ideal time to face a Villa side that was better against Arsenal on Monday, but has yet to secure a point after two games. It has been a frantic transfer window for Unai Emery, and it could take time to bed in the many new arrivals.

Everton v Manchester United (2 pm)
Everton have taken four points from two games and continue to make solid progress under David Moyes. His football may not always be pretty, but he has transformed the Toffees from annual strugglers into a side with genuine European ambitions. Manchester United bounced back nicely from their opening-day shocker at Hull with a fluent defeat of Ipswich at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick appears to have hit on a formula that produces going forward, led by captain Bruno Fernandes, but question marks remain about an ageing back four that has shipped four goals in two games.

Arsenal v Chelsea (4.30 pm)
The match of the weekend comes on Super Sunday, with the new-look Chelsea facing the ultimate Premier League test with a trip to the Emirates to take on the champions. Arsenal were not at their sparkling best at Villa Park, but produced the kind of win that showed once again they will be the team to beat this season. This ought to be a fascinating encounter that will say much about what we can expect from Xabi Alonso’s men this season.
