Boris Johnson and Kenyan president to host global education summit in London
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will co-host a global education summit with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who arrives in London tomorrow.
The summit, which takes place between 28-29 July, aims to raise $5bn to educate children across the developing world over the next five years.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the progress across all areas of their partnership during a packed schedule that marks 18 months since Kenyan president’s last visit.
The Kenyan president’s three-day trip will also, according to a government announcement, include major announcements to strengthen the Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership.
The prime minister will host Uhuru at his country residence in Buckinghamshire, Chequers, for bilateral talks.
As an official “guest of government”, Uhuru will attend an event at West London’s Kew Gardens, to celebrate the Kenya-UK Year of Climate Action, and Kenya’s leadership on climate change in Africa ahead of COP26.
UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will then him in an event at Mansion House, in London’s historic financial district.
The Foreign Secretary is expected to make significant announcements on the UK’s support for Big Four projects in Kenya which cover affordable housing, manufacturing, and health partnerships.
The President will also meet senior members of the UK Royal Family as part of his visit.
