Proposals for expanding UK air capacity reveal a “wide spectrum” of views

The Davies Commission, charged with examining the need for additional UK airport capacity and making recommendations for government policy in this area, has received and published the proposals submitted.

Sir Howard Davies, who chairs the commission, said the responses “show clearly the wide spectrum of views that exist”.

The set of 29 proposals includes plans for a third and fourth runway at Heathrow, Boris Johnson’s scheme for a four-runway hub on the Isle of Grain in the Thames Estuary, and expansion of Gatwick and Stansted airports.

Stakeholders who wish to comment have until 27 September 2013 to make their views heard by sending their responses to [email protected].

Davies said:

The timetable to comment is tight, as we need to move quickly to winnow down the options and reduce uncertainty for potentially affected communities. I encourage everyone with an interest to make their views known, to help inform our recommendations on these complex and important questions.

The commission is due to present an interim report on UK air needs by the end of this year and a full report in the summer of 2015.
