Pubs to be allowed to stay open late for Euros final this Sunday
Pubs will be allowed to stay open late on Sunday night if the Euros final goes into extra time.
Punters will be able to hang around for 45 minutes longer in pubs on Sunday evening in case the Euros final goes into extra time, regardless of whether England make the final.
According to reports, pubs will be allowed to remain open until 11:15pm instead of the usual 10:30.
The government were reportedly concerned that, if the 8pm match continued into extra time, fans would spill out onto the street, causing chaos as the match went on.
An emergency law will reportedly be passed in the House of Commons shortly to legally allow pubs to remain open for the extra 45 minutes.
The decision will no doubt come as a boost to pubs, which have suffered greatly throughout the pandemic and are still struggling to make a profit.
Elsewhere, Sadiq Khan is offering Londoners the chance to win tickets to the Euro 2020 final at Wembley if they can prove they have been to a walk-in vaccination centre for their first vaccine dose, or have booked an appointment.
Just one lucky pair will win tickets to the final, but another 50 pairs could win tickets to the fan zone in Trafalgar Square.
The competition is in an effort to boost the vaccine uptake in the capital.
