Rail lines reopen at Forest Hill after sinkhole is fixed
Rail lines have reopened at Forest Hill station in South London, after two days of travel disruption due to a sinkhole under the tracks.
Southern Rail said lines were open again but some train services have been "short formed due to stock displacement" – meaning there may be less seats for commuters.
The sinkhole opened up on Monday, throwing the capital's travel system into chaos during the evening rush hour. Train delays and cancellations carried on throughout yesterday as the rail company tried to fix the hole, and even led to the closure of London Bridge station at one point last night.
"Network Rail and Thames Water have worked together to repair and fill the hole and train services are now able to serve Anerley, Penge West, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Honor Oak Park, Brockley and New Cross Gate," Southern Rail said today, adding that a revised timetable would run Monday to Friday until further notice.
The rail firm advised customers that they will be able to claim compensation but warned: "We are currently experiencing high incoming volumes of delay repay applications so please bear with us while we process your claim."
