[Re: Why Boris Johnson is by far the best choice for Londoners, yesterday]
It’s good to see support for a candidate on the basis on his character, the worth of his policies, and how those coincide with the nature of London itself. There’s no better example of how directly-elected mayors can rejuvenate politics than this break from the usual party cliches of British political life.

You’re right that Boris unifies. But what of those who refuse to be unified? Ken’s ability to maintain support through his divisiveness is a worrying sign for the future.

Not fit to preach
While it was satisfying to see Rupert Murdoch finally given his comeuppance, did anyone else find it ironic for a Labour MP to be the one to accuse him of not being a “fit and proper” person to run an international company? Given Labour’s appalling record with the economy, the strength of the message was massively diluted. Labour MPs have committed far worse crimes than Murdoch; their stewardship of the economy and the country resulted in the one of the worst economic crises ever faced by the UK. Labour continually lied about how prudent they were being with the economy. But what punishment do failed politicians get?
