Chinese walls

Terrific advice [Culture clash: Five tips for Western firms that want to do business with China, yesterday]. I’ve lived and worked in Greater China many times over the past 15 years. How I wish I read this article before my first trip. If anyone is skeptical about anything in the article, trust me, Barbara Wang & Harold Chee really know their stuff – follow their advice and you’ll have a great head start.

Seeding a Valley
Although I agree that people shouldn’t rush into investments [Only fools rush in where angels fear to invest, yesterday] the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) is aimed at encouraging investment into early stage (potentially) high growth companies by offsetting at least some of the risk with tax benefits.

The reason Silicon Valley has succeeded is that successful entrepreneurs reinvest into other start-ups in the area. This has been going on for many years and this pay-forward mindset has grown the Valley into what it is today.

London is already the largest tech-hub in Europe and these efforts can only help that situation improve further. Once the ecosystems gets to a certain size it feeds itself and spurs even more start-ups, which is good for the economy and potential investors.
