Redknapp hit with tax evasion charge
TOTTENHAM manager Harry Redknapp will appear in court next month after being charged with two counts of tax evasion.
Redknapp, 62, is accused of cheating the public revenue of around £40,000, relating to two payments totalling £183,000 from former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric. Ex-Pompey manager Redknapp was charged yesterday after voluntarily attending Bishopsgate police station and will appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 11 February.
Redknapp’s solicitor Ian Burton said: “Harry has co-operated fully with investigators during the course of this inquiry and is confident of a successful outcome to these court proceedings.”
The payments were made between April 2002 and November 2007 via an account in Monaco and relate to Redknapp’s time in charge at Portsmouth.
A statement from the Crown Prosecution Service read: “The CPS Revenue and Customs Division decided there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest to charge Mr Redknapp.”
Mandaric, 71 and now chairman of Leicester City, was charged with tax evasion in Tuesday and will appear before magistrates next month.
