Redknapp refuses to give up chase for striker Huntelaar
TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp admits he still hasn’t given up hope of signing Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, despite already adding Peter Crouch to squad.
Redknapp admitted earlier this week he was happy with his four-pronged strike force after Crouch arrived from Portsmouth for £9m to team up with Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko.
But with out-of-favour Darren Bent set for a move away from White Hart Lane, Spurs boss Redknapp admits he is still looking into the prospect of bringing in £17m-rated Huntelaar, whose projected move to German side Stuttgart fell through last week.
“It is definitely not a no go,” Redknapp said ahead of today’s Asia Trophy final with Hull City. “It is still a possibility. If you look at his goalscoring record, it is incredible.
“If he is available then again he is a player that interests me. I think if any top-class player becomes available then you have to be interested and if Darren Bent does go then maybe we will be interested. You cannot have too many good players. Competition for places is what it is all about.”
Huntelaar’s arrival would increase Tottenham’s striking options to five, but Redknapp insists he is unconcerned over whether that would upset the other players in his squad.
“I don’t care,” he added. “It’s not about keeping them happy, they have to keep me happy and the fans happy – that is what they are paid to do.
“It’s up to them as they have got to fight to play, it’s all about competition for places.”
