Rugby lad comes back to the City
SEAN Bean wasn’t the only hard man in the City yesterday. Ex-England rugby international Will Greenwood was down at the Gherkin, banging the drum about the Rugby World Cup 2015 (hosted in the UK) and the vast hospitality opportunities it presents to the capital.
Greenwood was at home in the Square Mile, having started his career in the City before he went into professional rugby.
“I used to work in foreign exchange and futures with HSBC, rugby training in the evenings before the sport turned pro. I would often show up at Lower Thames Street with a black eye and a few stitches,” he told The Capitalist.
With such strong links between the City and rugby, does he anticipate a lot of skiving during the World Cup?
“I hope not,” he said. “We want to continue economic growth and not make the World Cup to blame for a slight blip!” Indeed.
