DEFENDING champion Francesca Schiavone defeated home favourite Marion Bartoli to reach the French Open final, where she will play Li Na after she overcame Maria Sharapova.

Schiavone, 30, a surprise winner when she clinched her first grand slam title in Paris last year, gets the chance to retain her crown after a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win.

Li, meanwhile, is aiming to become China’s first grand slam singles champion after reaching her second major final of the year, following her defeat to Kim Clijsters in January’s Australian Open. Li overcame Russia’s seventh seed Sharapova in an error-strewn match 6-4, 7-5.
