FOOTBALL: Serbia’s ambassador to Italy apologised yesterday after away supporters caused a Euro 2012 qualifier between the two countries to be abandoned.

Serbian fans threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch and into the crowd, causing the match to be called to a halt after just six minutes on Tuesday night.

European chiefs Uefa have launched an investigation into what they called “serious disorder”.
