Slaughter and May hires former Serious Fraud Office head David Green as senior consultant
The former head of the Serious Fraud Office, David Green, has confirmed his move to magic circle firm Slaughter and May after months of speculation.
Green left the government agency in April this year after six years at the helm and was replaced by former FBI lawyer Lisa Osofsky.
Slaughter and May said Green would take up his post on 22 October. It quelled concerns over conflicts of interest, saying “he will not work on matters in which he was involved while at the SFO”.
Under Green’s watch the SFO secured a £497m deferred prosecution agreement with Rolls-Royce, a Slaughter and May client, following its four-year investigation into bribery and corruption at the company.
The case was one of a number of so-called “blockbusters” the SFO took on. Other examples include its case against Tesco over its 2014 accounting scandal.
Green said: “Slaughter and May is a natural fit for me and I look forward to being a part of the firm’s global investigations practice, which rightly enjoys a pre-eminent reputation.”
Jonny Cotton, co-head of Slaughter and May’s global investigations group, added: “Our ability to hire somebody of David’s calibre reflects a period of sustained success underpinned by a series of high profile mandates.”
In a speech earlier this month, Osofsky said she will be a “different kind of director” to Green.
