Smartphone battery life: Huawei creates phone battery which charges in just two minutes
No longer will you have to suffer the pain of your phone battery running out and hanging around while it charges when you have places to go and people to see.
Researchers at Huawei have created new fast charging batteries which can juice-up your phone in the time it takes to make a coffee, powering up to 68 per cent charge in just two minutes. That's a massive 10 times faster than the current batteries used in smartphones.

And the larger battery, which charges to 50 per cent in just five minutes.
Both give around 10 hours of use.
And it's not just smartphones that may be revolutionised by the new technology. Huawei say it could also have implications for electric vehicles and wearables.
Other quick charging technology developments have focused on the use of new materials, but Huawei's batteries are made from the same material as that used in current phones – lithium-ion.
Many researchers have focused on using aluminium, which has a high charge capacity as well as being low cost and safe.
However, Huawei's work appears to be further along, having undergone "many rounds of testing" and certified by its test department. It's prototype can be used in phones, whereas aluminium battery prototypes are still in the early stages of development.
