Social media giant Snap agrees new deal with Sony Music to allow artists’ music to feature on its library of filters.

This comes as part of Snap’s expansion of its music capabilities.

Launching soon, the platform will feature ‘Sound Lenses’ with a pre-selected song embedded into the filter.

The lens will then be able to transform pictures of anyone to appear as if they are singing the song.

The move hopes to make Snap a more immersive music platform, and Sony are looking to utilise Snap’s augmented reality features to reach a wider audience.

“With over 200 million Snapchatters engaging with augmented reality every day, we know they love using our Lenses to express themselves.” Snap officials said

“So we’re expanding the music experience on Snapchat by adding Sounds into our AR Lenses available in the Lens Carousel and experimenting with new formats.”

Dennis Kooker, President of Global Digital Business at Sony Music Entertainment said about the agreement: “We are pleased to be expanding our relationship with Snap to develop new commercial opportunities for our artists around short form video and augmented reality experiences”.

“Through this agreement, our artists have more ways to connect with fans and enhance engagement in their music by enabling their songs to be part of the Lens and Sounds tools that support communication and creative expression among Snapchat’s users.”
