Space to seal seventh win over seven furlongs
JACK of all trades and master of none is certainly not a term that applies to seven-furlong specialist SPACE BLUES.
Charlie Appleby’s five-year-old son of Dubawi has one trip and one trip only, and it has to be said he’s very good at it.
His form over seven furlongs reads 1122111, while he’s only two wins from seven starts over other trips, and his claims for back-to-back wins in the Lennox Stakes (3:00pm) over that distance are obvious.
Nothing could get close to him when sent off the 2/1 favourite in last year’s renewal and, quite remarkably, it looks like he’ll jump off a similar price this time around.
Those opposing him will cling onto the fact he was well-beaten in the Al Quoz Sprint in March and that he’s not been seen since.
He’s run well fresh after similar breaks before, notably winning the Spring Trophy at Haydock in 2020 after three months off and also the 1351 Turf Sprint in Saudi after a 195-day break.
With the forecast unsettled it’s also a bonus that he doesn’t mind a bit of cut underfoot.
All things considered, he’s a horse that’s in a league of his own over the trip and he deserves his spot at the top of the betting.

KINROSS and ESCOBAR would be the two to add to a Swinger, where you need two selections to finish in the first three places.
The former is proven on soft ground and, like Space Blues, could be carving himself out as a bit of a seven-furlong specialist.
Two of his three career wins have come at this trip with cut in the ground so he should give a good account.
Escobar is a big outsider of the field and could shake up the winning dividend if he makes it into the first three.
He’s without a win in two years and 17 starts but was third in this race last year at 40/1 and could pop up again.
