Euro cup is back in Britain
RUGBY UNION: The Heineken Cup final will be staged at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in 2011 and Twickenham the following year.
It is the fourth time the final has been staged at the Millennium Stadium – ironically with Munster winning on each occasion.
Similarly, it is also the fourth time the final has been held at Twickenham, the last in 2007 when Wasps beat Leicester.
Snooker shoot-out launched
SNOOKER: Supremo Barry Hearn has announced a Twenty20 cricket-style one-frame shootout to draw in a new audience.
The tournament, to be held 28 to 30 January 2011, will feature a 20-second shot clock with frames not allowed to exceed 12 minutes.
“It will be snooker at full throttle,” Hearn said. “It will test players to the limits of what they can do under pressure.”
Goosen misses Wentworth
GOLF: Retief Goosen is out of this week’s PGA Championship at Wentworth after failing to recover from a broken toe.
The South African suffered the injury while playing with his children and has not played since the US Masters in April.
Spanish veteran Jose Maria Olazabal is also out of the European Tour flagship event with rheumatism.
Nadal cool on favourite talk
TENNIS: Rafael Nadal has played down his tag of favourite for next week’s French Open.
The five-time champion arrives at Roland Garros as the only man to have won all three ATP Masters tournaments, after adding the Madrid title to his Monte Carlo and Rome wins at the weekend.
But Nadal said: “Who knows what will happen? There is more than one contender.”
