Brady and Sullivan seek Brum exit
FOOTBALL: Birmingham City chief executive Karren Brady and PLC chairman David Sullivan will leave the club if Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung completes his takeover of the club as expected.
Yeung’s company Grandtop International Holdings have formally lodged a takeover bid after sending out official offer documents to shareholders.
But Brady said: “Grandtop have asked me to retain my position as CEO but they must be allowed to stamp their own mark on the club and I believe that this is best done without the current board looking over their shoulder.”
Three in a row for Hagen
CYCLING: Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen snatched the leader’s yellow jersey in the Tour of Britain after completing a third stage win in a row. Hagen, 22, beat Italy’s Filippo Pozzato and Britain’s Russell Downing in a sprint finish in Stoke to take a nine-second lead into today’s sixth stage from Frome, Somerset, to Bideford, north Devon. The race finishes inLondon on Saturday.
Johnson unmoved by injuries
RUGBY UNION: England coach Martin Johnson insists he is not fazed by the shoulder injuries sustained by Riki Flutey and Delon Armitage.
Both players are set to miss England’s autumn international series but Johnson feels he has plenty of depth at his disposal.
“Injuries happen,” he said. “We have to get them back playing and look at the next guys in line. There are some very good young players in the Saxons group and some good players outside it.”
