Irish National joy for Cracker
RACING: Bluesea Cracker is a 33-1 chance for this Saturday’s Grand National after landing the Irish equivalent at Fairyhouse.
The three-mile-five-furlong contest claimed several casualties, including favourite Saddlers Storm, but the 25-1 shot, ridden by Andrew McNamara, came through to beat Oscar Time by four and a half lengths with Whatuthink and A New Story making up the places.
Meanwhile, Madison Du Berlais heads 65 entries for the Aintree showdown after 10 more horses were removed yesterday.
Evans to help police enquiries
TENNIS: The Lawn Tennis Association have confirmed that British Davis Cup player Dan Evans will “fully co-operate” with police over an allegation of sexual assault in Bath.
Avon and Somerset police published a photo appeal of three men they wish to talk to in relation to the alleged incident on 19 March. The other two are also believed to be British tennis players.
But the photo and appeal had to be removed from their website as the men were identified.
Wigan still flying high
RUGBY LEAGUE: Hat-tricks from Pat Richards and Darrell Goulding ensured Wigan consolidated their lead at the top of the Super League table with a comprehensive 54-14 victory over Wakefield Wildcats.
Second-place Warrington remain on their trail after three tries from Chris Hicks set up a 29-10 win at Hull.
St Helens go third after a 52-18 thrashing of Castleford, while Huddersfield went down 30-18 at Salford.
