Strauss played part in our triumph, says Collingwood
ENGLAND Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood insists his team’s World Cup triumph owed much to Test skipper Andrew Strauss.
Strauss was not in the Caribbean to witness Collingwood’s men scoop England’s first International Cricket Council tournament in 35 years of trying. But Collingwood believes the dazzling success can be partly attributed to the culture established by Strauss and coach Andy Flower.
“He is a fantastic leader. A lot of this kind of success we’ve had over the last few weeks can go down to a lot of the values he and Andy Flower have installed in us over the past year,” he said.
Collingwood played down suggestions he could replace Strauss as skipper of the one-day side, adding: “This was solely my job as Twenty20 captain, to win the World Cup. There’s no pressure on him coming back in.”
