Tate Modern to turn into walk-in mass vaccine hub

The Tate Modern will turn into a mass walk-in Covid-19 vaccination centre this Friday night, offering first and second Pfizer jabs to anyone over 18.

The iconic venue will be hosting the pop-up vaccine site in its Turbine Hall, offering Londoners exclusive access to galleries for the night and a unique setting to get protected against Covid-19.

The event will take place this Friday, 16 July, from 5pm to 9pm, run by NHS South East London.

They will be offering anyone over 18 their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Second doses of the same jab will also be on offer, but only for those who had their first over eight weeks ago (on or before 21st May 2021).

Attendees don’t need to bring identification or be registered to a GP practice to make use of the service.

Frances Morris, director of Tate Modern, told Morning Wire: “Everyone at Tate Modern is delighted to be doing our bit for the vaccine roll-out. Friday evening’s pop-up vaccine centre in the Turbine Hall will help hundreds of people protect themselves, their friends and their families, as well as being able to enjoy exclusive access to our galleries for the night. I hope as many people as possible take up this opportunity and book now.”

Those eligible and wanting to attend can either book through eventbrite or simply walk in on the day.

The mass vaccination drive at centres where no appointment is necessary is part of the government’s “grab a jab” campaign. It aims to deliver as many first doses as possible to over-18s before the recently confirmed 19 July full reopening – what NHS chief Sir Simon Stevens dubbed a “race to the finish line”.

Other iconic venues offering the jabs include Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, Watford’s Vicarage Road Stadium, and the London Science Museum.
